This pre ban genuine African ivory beaded necklace is in excellent condition.  It was purchased in the Congo jungle in what used to be Zaire in 1987; the grain is delicate and beautiful and the carving, which the natives did as we watched, was done by hand with aged and crude tools which makes each bead unique.  The carving is not uniform, the way it would be if done with better precision tools.  Even the fastener was carved by hand.  When unfastened the necklace is 21 1/4" long.
